The annual farm-market, which draws thousands of people to downtown Portland each summer, has been plagued by violence, vandalism and arson, the city’s chief medical examiner said.

In the past three years, at least four people have been killed in the market, which has become one of the citys most dangerous spots.

The market’s founder, Jason Gennaro, died in a fire last year, and his family was forced to move out of the neighborhood to avoid the area’s high crime.

The city is now working with the family to find a new site, and the owners plan to hold a farmers market again next year. 

“I’ve seen this kind of tragedy, and I’ve seen it happen a lot,” Portland Police Chief Dan Oates said during a recent press conference.

“We’ve got to be proactive.

We’ve got a lot of things to worry about, but we’ve got these farmers market, and we need to make sure we’re prepared to address this.” 

What to know in Portland’s farming community The farm-and-boutique market has been the scene of more than a dozen shootings in the past two years, most recently on April 12 when a young man was shot in the neck during an altercation at the market.

There have been several other high-profile attacks at the farmers market in the city, including one last year in which a man was stabbed to death and another in which an 8-year-old girl was shot to death.

A man who was found dead in the woods after the last attack, in which the girl was also killed, was identified as Robert Brown, a suspect in the killing of two other young girls.

Police say that in each of the three killings, the suspects were armed with handguns.

The area has been described as “the home of the farmer,” and people who live in the area say that it’s a community they consider safe.
